Just as happens when road tests confirm positive first impressions, along come the comments from the Italian journalist-testers fresh off the saddles at the Press Launch of the new Scarabeo 125-200.
Slipping in and out of traffic has become a joy, thanks to dimensions that have been compacted to just the right level and the steering wheel that is wide but not exaggerated. The mechanics are also optimal, typical of Aprilia products. The Scarabeo’s suspension reveals itself to be stable but fast, intuitive in every situation with padding that can absorb the pavement without any problems. Riding it, you feel solid in every situation. The manageability may not be award-winning but the security it delivers could not be better. The integrated brakes are well done and the attack isn’t aggressive thanks to soft and well-modulated commands, typical of scooters. As always happens in such situations, the left lever does most of the work (the command is a bit soft but efficient) while the right one is only in charge of the auxiliary brake.
MOTORBOX
The biggest difference between this scooter and its competition has to be its suspensions’ capacity to absorb roughness. Its predecessor was already proud of this characteristic and it was maintained in this latest version. A certain smoothness, especially in the first part of the excursion, handled the pavement and small bumps quite nicely, but was not the case with bigger holes.
The structure is designed for comfort, less so than a sporty ride (for that there is the Sport City), but is more efficient in moving comfortably along urban roads.
CYBERSCOOTER
Quite attractive, thanks to its aesthetics and details, the Scarabeo immediately appears to be both functional and practical. Starting with the instrument panel that seems to belong to a larger-cylinder scooter. It is easy to read and complete with everything from temperature to mileometer. The various functions are commanded by a comfortable button positioned next to the ignition, a nice difference in respect to the classic rubber button on the console. The undersaddle can contain a less cumbersome jet helmet.
MOTONLINE
Beyond the typically attractive aesthetic, the trustworthiness and general comfort are again the best weapons of the newest Scarabeo. The suspensions work fluidly, even on the pavement. In the meantime, the brakes are reinforced with a great, new integral braking system with three anterior pistons.
MOTOCICLISMO
The frontal design immediately appears clean thanks to the new solution of integrating the direction signals into the handlebars and the anterior beehive grid that gives the new Scarabeo an aggressive and lightly racing look. Taking a good look at it, you then discover that the grate’s openings are oval shaped and truly represent the Scarabeo theme around which the design is centered.
The engine is brand new (both in the 125 and the 200) and was developed by Aprilia specifically for the new Scarabeo, giving it a 4-valve distribution with a twin crankshaft at the top. The propulsion is clean and thrifty in its consumption, distributing 15 cvs of power for the 125 and 19 for the 200, characterized by a generous torque that can be used from the lower regimes upwards.
