THE NEW SCARABEO RANGE DEBUTS IN MILAN, WITH FOUR ALL-NEW MODELS

The constantly evolving Scarabeo family sets the bar even higher with the introduction of a number of new models and engines. The 2009 range of Aprilia's “city bike” – originally launched in 1993 and selling over 750,000 units in fifteen years – has just gained four new Scarabeo models, in three different sizes and with engines ranging from 50 to 300cc, catering for the differing needs of a broad based target of users of all ages, genders and lifestyle.

The Scarabeo 300 Special (elegant, sporty and introducing an all-new engine size and levels of equipment), Scarabeo 125 i.e. and 200 i.e. (the world's first “multimap” scooter with latest generation electronic fuel injection) and Scarabeo 50 4Valve (boasting improved performance together with ultra-low fuel consumption and emissions with the highly advanced new 50cc, 4 stroke, valve engine) were presented today at the Arco della Pace in Milan.

With the addition of these new models, offered in a wide choice of colours, the Scarabeo family is now one of the most diverse and complete ranges of high-wheeled scooters in the segment, which caters for the necessities of a widely differing spectrum of users with the inimitable fusion of style, safety and performance that makes each Scarabeo so unique.

Scarabeo 50 4Valve

The “fifty” with an all-new high-tech, powerful and sophisticated heart. A tiny engineering gem adopting state-of-the-art solutions to offer class-leading power: it is the most powerful 50cc 4 stroke on the market. Four valve timing and the fluid dynamic efficiency of the head have brought incredible benefits in terms of engine speed and performance, which are now on a par with a 2 stroke engine. And at just 43.5 Km/litre this engine uses considerably less fuel than a 2 stroke.
Compact, light, extremely nimble and particularly well suited to younger and female users, Scarabeo 50 4Valve offers exceptional agility and stability in poor road conditions. Comfort and precision come together in perfect harmony on the Scarabeo 50 4Valve, with a 25-mm telescopic hydraulic fork and rear suspension boasting a sturdy hydraulic shock absorber with 78 mm of wheel travel. The powerful braking system, which ensures absolute safety in all conditions, consists of a 220 mm front disc brake and a large 140 mm diameter drum brake at the rear, for precise, modulable braking at all times.
Scarabeo 50 4Valve is available in the colours Cult White, Competition Black, Fiji Blue, York Grey and Giava Green.

Scarabeo 125 i.e. and 200 i.e.

Once again, the timeless lines of the mid sized variant of the Scarabeo come together with the best that technology has to offer. The Scarabeo 125/200ie is powered by an all-new engine, designed and developed by Aprilia specifically for this scooter. This state of the art, light, rational and clean engine offers outstanding performance and fuel economy with remarkably low vibration and ultra-low emissions, in keeping with the Scarabeo philosophy of creating only environment friendly vehicles.
Both engines are liquid cooled and boast 4-valve timing with double overhead camshafts - a sophisticated solution that further optimises engine function. The adoption of electronic fuel injection has brought substantial benefits in terms of both performance and consumption, further reducing the fuel demands of an already parsimonious scooter.
Additionally, and for the first time ever on a scooter, Scarabeo 125/200 i.e. also allows the user to choose between two different engine mappings. The user can now select between Eco mode, which reduces fuel consumption by up to 7% and Sport mode, which optimises performance, directly from the handlebar.
Scarabeo 125 i.e. and 200 i.e. are available in the colours Couture Blue and Aprilia Black.
 

Scarabeo 300 Special

The logical addition to complete the full sized Scarabeo range. A distinctly contemporary engine size striking the perfect balance between power, compactness, agility and riding pleasure. The special character of this new model is emphasised by bespoke graphics and a touch of attitude created by the subtle use of black for the rims and a number of other details. A lower windshield, new chrome highlights and new instrument panel surround contribute further to the sporty feel of this truly special version of the Scarabeo.
With an engine that is powerful yet easily manageable, Scarabeo 300 Special delivers outstanding performance, yet the precisely calibrated injection system ensures reduced emissions and fuel consumption figures comparable to a smaller engined vehicle, which - coupled with the 10-litre fuel tank - offers the range of a grand tourer.
In spite of its compact size, low saddle and high wheels, Scarabeo 300 boasts a helmet compartment large enough to hold a full-face helmet and other small objects or even an A3 format briefcase, as no part of the compartment is less than 15 cm wide. There is also a lockable oddments storage compartment behind the leg shield.
Scarabeo 300 Special is available in the colours Glam White, Competition Black and Cruiser Grey.
